Clinical Characteristics and Phenotypic Antibiotic Susceptibility Profiles of Acinetobacter baumannii Isolates
Abstract
Acinetobacter baumannii has become one of the most notorious and dangerous issues in contemporary clinical microbiology (Boutzoukas & Doi, 2025). Its outstanding capacity to endure on hospital surfaces, dryness, and various commonly used disinfectants makes it extremely successful as a powerful healthcare-associated pathogen (Alanazi et al., 2025). The organism has become one of the biggest causes of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP), bloodstream infections (BSIs), urinary tract infections (UTIs), and wound infections, especially in critically ill and immunocompromised patients (Bharadwaj et al., 2022). Despite the increased insights into its genetic diversity and resistance determinants gained through advanced molecular tools, the routine management of patients in most clinical laboratories continues to be based on the use of a broad range of phenotyping tools, including disc diffusion (Bonnin et al., 2022). The clinical features of infected patients and their association with phenotypic susceptibility results are essential for guiding empirical therapy and improving infection-control practices (Rostamani et al., 2024).
